The Best Place to Start
A common misconception is that Medicare or Medicaid will pay for long-term, non-medical expenses (sometimes called “custodial care.”) While some home health services are considered “skilled” care and are covered under Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance, services that assist people with activities of daily living (bathing, grooming, eating, dressing, toileting, etc.), instrumental activities of daily living (grocery shopping, meal preparation, cleaning, etc.), and even some nursing services are generally not eligible under these programs and must be paid for privately or through government assisted programs. The exception to this standard may be the use of a long-term care insurance policy.

It is always wise to first determine what services are needed and into which category they fall. Staff from VNP and the Visiting Nurse Association—with which VNP is affiliated—are available to answer your questions.

Free Consultation
To help individuals and families determine the most appropriate and affordable plan of care, Visiting Nurse Plus offers a FREE, no-obligation, in-home consultation by a clinical professional. The assessment features a review of the individual’s ability to perform key activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, toileting, transferring, feeding and continence; and instrumental activities of daily living such as the ability to use a telephone, shop, prepare meals, perform household tasks and more. The professional conducting the assessment can also explain and discuss additional services that may be beneficial such as short-term respite for family caregivers and in-home nursing services like foot care, medication management and more.

Following this consultation, a Customized Care Representative will match a VNP caregiver to the customer’s particular situation. Every attempt is made to send the best staff person according to the customer’s needs and wishes; however, if the “fit” between the customer and caregiver is not ideal, VNP will replace the caregiver, usually prior to the next scheduled shift.
